The Rundown: A father and daughter travel across a haunted world filled with danger.

Across the wasteland of a post-apocalyptic city, Violet and her father are on the run. The ground is covered in abandoned and damaged cars and fires and smoke cover the landscape. As they navigate their way out of the city, Violet’s father warns her not to look back and that there is nothing they can go back to.

During their journey, they are forced to hide from unseen forces traveling the world and leaving destruction in their wake. When the pair find a place to hold up for the night, her father ventures out to check out something only to find violence. Unfortunately, bringing that violence forward will call on an even bigger threat coming straight for Violet.

The Story: The story starts with the typical beats of this genre from the blighted atmosphere to the creeping fear from the characters. As they move forward, more of the tropes this type of story emerge including the threat of others. While the story is steeped in those tropes, Harms adds some interesting changes to the narrative in the reveal towards the end of the story. While I wish the reveal happened sooner, it is interesting enough to warrant picking up the next issue to see what happens.

The Art: Mavinga creates some beautiful imagery throughout the issue. With the exception of the first few pages, the art focuses primarily on the characters with the background fading away and that works, but I want to see more of this world.
