As a fan of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series from Matt Dinniman and someone who has read all eight current books, I am scrambling for any information about the world of Carl and Princess Donut and today we just got some information about the upcoming live action adaptation from Peacock and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door production company.

According to multiple sources, including Deadline, Peacock has tapped Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer as showrunners for the upcoming series.

For the uninitiated, Dungeon Crawler Carl is set after an alien conglomerate takes over Earth, kills most of its population and destroys its surface for its own corporate greed. In the aftermath, the remaining humans are given the option to enter the dungeon which serves as their entry into the sadistic intergalactic game show known as Dungeon Crawler World. Former Coastguardsman Carl enters the dungeon alongside his ex-girlfriend’s cat Princess Donut where they end up fighting for their lives against mobs of monsters, fellow “Crawlers” and an unhinged AI throwing increasing dangers at them for the enjoyment of the universe watching.

As for the showrunners for the upcoming live action adaptation, they have some impressive credits between them.

Chris Yost is a name I recognize both from the world of comics and more. Yost is the co-creator of Laura Kinney aka X-23 in the comics as well as writing titles like Superior Spider-Man and Red Robin. His television work includes writing episodes of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and X-Men: Evolution. He is also the writer of Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok and an episode of The Mandalorian. His latest credits include multiple episodes of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord and Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.

Eric Heisserer is the Oscar nominated writer of Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival as well as writing the prequel to The Thing, Final Destination 5 and Bird Box. He also developed and wrote the series Shadow and Bone for Netflix.

No casting news has been released beyond confirmation that DCC audiobook narrator and voice actor Jeff Hays will be taking on the role of Princess Donut in the series.
