The Rundown: The young mutants get their first bedtime story as the team battles one of their own and his growing addiction.

Mr. St. Juniors is telling his daughter a story about the Rawhide Kid and realizes that he has company when the young mutants begin to listen outside the room. Eventually he invites them in and begins to tell them their first bedtime story as the adventure continues and things take some dangerous turns for the hero.

At the same time, Gambit is confronted by his wife and the rest of the team about what the eye of Agamotto is doing to him. As he finds himself dealing with his addiction, he lashes out at the rest of the X-Men and they begin to battle as Rogue demands he give the eye back to the dragon he took it from. Unfortunately, they don’t know that they are not alone on the battlefield and another group emerges to give the mutants a demand of their own.

The Story: Simone crafts a fun, entertaining story in this issue with some interesting and unexpected twists. I like how both stories emerge and evolve with the young mutants story having a more lighthearted tone as they immerse themselves in the story being told and the serious tone of the Gambit encounter and its ramifications for the character and his relationships. Everything culminates in a great reveal that I really enjoyed for what it means for the mutants and what the potential conflict will be.

The Art: Marquez creates beautifully detailed and visually exciting art in the issue. Not only do I love the art style, but really enjoyed the throwback style of the Rawhide Kid adventure.
