The Rundown: Sarah’s plans are in danger as her sister finds a new purpose in town.

After another failed experiment, Mary attempts to resurrect her sister’s dead fox pet and the creature goes back to their cave surprising Sarah in the process. Mary realizes that her sister is getting deeper into dark magic and decides to leave the cave and find a home in town as a live in nurse.
Mary follows Sarah into the town and finds a temporary home in an abandoned house so she can watch her sister get close to one of the town farmer’s. A closeness that Sarah will try to exploit for her own purposes and when that fails, she decides that her descent into darkness needs to go deeper.
The Story: Dawson crafts a dark, engaging story in this issue. There is a brilliantly dark tone throughout the story and I love watching Sarah’s descent into the person she becomes. This story has some great psychological moments for the character as well as giving Mary more agency as she takes steps to save herself from what her sister is becoming. There is a wonderful dark tragedy to this story, but I also like that everything in it is framed around Sarah trying to save her soul from the deal she struck.
The Art: Jaro creates some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I really love the visual style of this issue and the series itself.
