The Rundown: A young woman must find a way to survive in a world controlled by monsters.

It’s the end of summer in the near future and a train is rushing through what is now called the Northern Territory of the former United States. At one point, the train is forced to stop and the monsters running it discover that their shipment of living humans has died. A shipment that will force more powerful entities to arrive and deal with the failure while also lamenting the need for human livestock.
At the same time, a young woman escapes from the monsters by hiding among the bodies and makes her way to a small, abandoned house. There she discovers more and varied types of monsters all around her including one that offers her a chance of escape and possible safety.
The Story: Dastmalchian and Kilpatrick craft a dark, engaging and thrilling story in this first issue. One of the things that draws me into a story is world building and this first issue creates an interesting and unique world that I want to see explored. I like the mystery of the world itself and how the factions deal with the limitations of their power. There are some interesting characters littered throughout this first issue and I am on board with both the premise and the world of this series.
The Art: Lee crafts some beautifully detailed and visually engaging art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how the art captures the tone of the story.
