Season 1 Episode 2

Summon the Suit

As Steven reels from the fact that his life may not be his own, a mysterious partner emerges from the past as a war of the gods looms on the horizon.

After the events of the first episode, Steve wakes up back in his apartment not knowing how he got there, but convinced that there should be evidence of it on the close circuit cameras throughout the museum. Things get weirder when he discovers that the only one on camera is him and this causes more issues in his life. The opening moments of the episode are great and continue the comedic tone of Steven’s story.

Steven finally meets up with the woman on his phone names Layla and she reveals that there is more to her relationship with his alter Marc than he imagines. When he takes her back to his apartment there is a sweet sort of lovelorn moment from him that is interrupted by the police. I like the scene because it showcases that Layla is not just a passenger on Marc’s journey, she is a full participant and knows things that Steven doesn’t.

Steven finds himself kidnapped by more agents of Arthur Harrow and we get to see a bigger extent of his power and influence. It’s another interesting scene that shows the stakes Marc/Steven is up against in the real world as the episode deals with their internal conflict as well in moments where Steven obviously needs Marc’s expertise, but refuses to give up control. It’s an interesting tug of war that culminates in the emergence of another persona that is funny to witness.

We definitely get more of the Knoshu/Marc dynamic in this episode as Steven and Marc both have conversations with the character and we learn more about the deal that Marc made. A deal that might be darker than he imagined. We get to see the dangerous side of Khonshu and how manipulative he can be of Marc. We also get to see our first full on Moon Knight action sequence and it delivers on everything I’ve been waiting on.

While the Steven character’s motivations were annoying at times, the duality of the character continues to be compelling. Their internal conflict adds a great layer to the story and the disjointed nature of events enhances the drama as well.
