The Rundown: Abel’s family reunion will test the depth of the control he’s trying to maintain and reveal his own dark legacy.

Abel has made his way to a frozen wasteland only to discover that his grandfather is there. A grandfather he barely knows, but decides to take in the scared young boy. Abel remembers the only time he ever met his grandfather and the tragic circumstances that drove the man from his family.

When Abel reveals what is building inside him, his grandfather decides to help the boy unlock his potential.

The Story: I continue to enjoy this story on several levels. I love the huge adventure and questing aspects of it. I admire the world that Skottie Young has built with these characters and this story. I really enjoy the themes Young brings to this story and the parallels to abuse that permeate the relationships. This issue especially illustrates how deep a legacy the cycle of abuse can have on both the victims and perpetrators. It’s a captivating story that I find engaging.

The Art: Jorge Corona delivers some stunning art in this issue. Everything from the characters to the detailed backgrounds look fantastic. I continue to marvel at how beautiful this book is drawn.
