The Rundown: Hellboy and Abe travel to a remote island to rescue a colleague from a ghost invasion.
The island of Red Bay has been receiving some supernatural visitors in the form of ghosts from the many shipwrecks that litter the seas around the island. These ghosts have overrun the town and forced the locals to flee. The phenomenon gets the attention of the BPRD who send agent and exorcist Agatha Blunt to investigate. When she disappears into the mist surrounding the town, Hellboy and Abe Sapien arrive to find and rescue her.
The pair enter the mist and immediately find a pair of ghosts reluctant to talk until Hellboy puts on some pressure to get a location. When they arrive at the local tavern, a fight breaks out and Hellboy, Abe and Agatha discover that the ghosts didn’t arrive in the town to take it over, they were running away from a bigger threat.
The Story: Mignola and Williams craft an intense and entertaining story in this issue. I continue to love the world of Hellboy and this story brilliantly keeps me engaged in that world with these characters. I loved the dialogue between Hellboy and Abe as well as the matter of fact tone of Hellboy’s interaction with the ghosts in the story. I love the buildup of suspense and cannot wait to see what happens in the next issue after this one’s explosive cliffhanger.
The Art: Campbell creates some beautifully detailed and stylish art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this issue a lot.
