Iconic STAR TREK actress Gates McFadden (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Picard) is returning to the character of Beverly Crusher, but this time as the writer of the comic limited series STAR TREK: CRUSHER with artist Megan Levens and colorist Charlie Kirchoff.

With the debut issue arriving in summer 2027, the fan-favorite actress is making her comic book writing debut to bridge the 20 year in-universe gap in Crusher’s story between the events of the film Star Trek Nemesis and the television series Star Trek: Picard. McFadden, who portrayed the beloved Starfleet Chief Medical Officer for over 150 episodes, four feature films, and two video games, is ecstatic about further exploring the depth behind Crusher and her journey in the Star Trek universe.
“It’s such an honor to return to Starfleet and expand Beverly Crusher’s storyline in a whole new way,” said McFadden. “I’ve spent years bringing the words of other great writers to life in Beverly’s shoes, so it’s inspiring and thrilling to now be the one scripting a new chapter in this fabulous character’s saga. I’m excited for Star Trek fans to read this comic and I’m so grateful for their continued support.”

“IDW’s bold celebration of Star Trek’s 60th anniversary was just the beginning of our stellar plans for the iconic franchise,” stated Davidi Jonas, IDW CEO. “We are so fortunate to have Gates McFadden beam into the world of comics and reprise her role of Beverly Crusher, but this time as the writer. There is a 20 year gap in the fan-favorite character’s story. Who better to tell it than Beverly Crusher herself?”
This surprise announcement comes as IDW Publishing continues to commemorate Star Trek during its massive milestone year, recently releasing the all-star STAR TREK: 60TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL and a new STAR TREK #1, which set a new sales record for the franchise at IDW. The eagerly anticipated STAR TREK: ZERO POINT #1, featuring commander Raffi Musiker, goes on sale October 14.
