The Rundown: A movie series superfan gets a once in a lifetime opportunity as well as the attention of a killer.

A fan of the movie series Blood Mountain makes her way to the house used in the series and ends up murdered. The production company of the movie series moves to cover up the murder as the house is playing host to contest winner Lucy Mallard and her friend Karrah who are driving in to enjoy the anniversary of the movies and meet its stars.

As Lucy and Karrah fangirl over their favorite stars and what the movie series means to them, both are unaware that not only are they being watched, but someone is also killing more people around the production and Lucy has become the center of the killer’s focus.

The Story: Chase creates an entertaining story in this first issue. There is an interesting mystery being developed within the story and I like the themes of obsession in different forms being exhibited by everyone including the protagonists. That being said, it wasn’t really for me. The main character Lucy doesn’t really have any emotional weight. I don’t get a sense of her as a person beyond her love of this movie franchise and that makes it hard for me to care about what she actually wants or what could possibly happen to her.

The Art: Mayer creates some beautiful looking visuals throughout the issue. I like the visual style of the issue a lot and how it captures the tone of the story.
