The Rundown: Milton discovers an ally who has had a much darker experience than he has.

Another member of Milton’s crew manages to survive the attack on their ship and he lands in the woods outside a farm. With few options, he offers to surrender to a farmer and his wife who graciously take him in and feed him. Unfortunately, the man knows something is wrong and finds out right away that they have signaled the enemy to his location.

Days later, Anders and his son bring Milton to a farm where he knows friends live. When Anders is attacked by a shadow in the dark, Milton discovers quickly that it is his friend and crewmate Flynn whose ordeal has given him a much darker perspective on the war and their time across enemy lines.

The Story: Remender continues to craft a thoughtful, thrilling and dark adventure in this issue. I love that the issue is told from Flynn’s perspective and that we see his experience and how different it was from Milton’s. It lays the groundwork for some interesting conflicts to come between Flynn and Milton as well as Flynn and Anders. The story takes some great narrative leaps forward and kept me engaged enough to want to see where it goes next.

The Art: Acuna continues to create some gorgeous art in this issue. I love the gritty visual style and how perfectly it captures the emotion of the characters.
