The Rundown: Milton receives a small act of kindness behind enemy lines, but his mission is still not done.
Milton thinks back about his decision to join up as he prepares to say goodbye to his wife for possibly the last time. He awakens in a bed behind enemy lines after being discovered by a man and his son in their bakery. His wounds treated, he finds himself looking at the small child before his father returns and the two have a tense exchange.
In the aftermath, the father tells Milton that he can stay for the next two days until the enemy patrols leave the area and then he has to leave. Taking advantage of the man’s hospitality, the two exchange more words about their positions in the war before Milton returns his mind to his satchel and his mission.
The Story: Remender delivers a great psychological story in this issue. The issue is filled with tension for Milton without the chase or action of the previous issues. The tension comes from the character’s own paranoia and his desire to trust the man who effectively saved his life. There are some great dialogue moments between these characters and they shed light on the world of this story and the motivations of the characters within it.
The Art: Acuna delivers stunning art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and the imagery of the world of this story.
