The Rundown: Jake’s investigation heats up as bodies continue to pile up.

With crime hitting all-time lows in the city, the police commissioner uses that opportunity to announce his candidacy for mayor. In the middle of his speech, a gunman tries to kill him only to be thwarted by the city’s hero Sentinel and his young sidekick. In the present, Jake finds himself back in an interrogation room after he becomes the last person to see another murder before she died. After being released, Jake makes a call to his benefactor to see if he can use his influence to get him a meeting with someone who claims to know the Sentinel’s true identity. Someone dangerous and unpredictable.

Later that night, Jake is brought in to meet with the criminal formerly known as the Lunatic who has been housed in a maximum security mental facility for years. After being snuck in, Jake learns a terrible truth about the man the city hailed as a hero. A truth that could be the reason so many people are winding up dead. Unfortunately, Jake’s information will paint a bigger target on his back with the police as another body gets added to the list.

The Story: I continue to be impressed and engaged with the mystery in this series and this issue is no exception. I love the layers to this story and how the past and present storylines reveal more and more about not only the Sentinel, but the corruption of the city itself. The story has hooked me with its complex characters, themes, mystery and tone. I cannot wait to see where it goes next and what unexpected twists it will take.

The Art: Jordi Armengol delivers some beautiful imagery in this issue. I love the visual contrast between the past and present and the character depictions are brilliant in their detail.
