Black Panther is gathering a new team to support the Avengers and they are an interesting group.

T’Challa is recruiting. From across the Earth, Black Panther is recruiting new heroes. He’s not looking for a new Avengers team or a backup team. He’s recruiting members of a new intelligence gathering team called the Agents of Wakanda. This new team is going to consist of some unconventional faces like Gorilla Man, Ka-Zar, Morbius and others. Their mandate is to gather human intelligence around the world in order to give the Avengers team a heads up before they go into battle.

Their first missions are daring, dangerous and completely off-book, but they yield benefits. Black Panther finds out about all kinds of plots across the globe including Atlantis and Transylvania. Apparently Dracula really wants Morbius and the Avengers are going to have to get in gear with the help of Blade to stop them.

I am really impressed with the interesting group of characters Jason Aaron has assembled for the Agents of Wakanda. Black Panther working behind the scenes to gather intel that the Avengers can act on is a brilliant premise for this issue. It adds an additional level of character and relationship drama to the team as well as showcase the leadership style and priorities of T’Challa as leader. With the Avengers in the unique circumstances they find themselves in, Panther’s unconventional approach makes for a fun issue.

The art is great in this issue as well. The styles really complement each other and make the story seamless. There are some great reaction panels and you can tell the artists had fun drawing this eclectic group of rogue heroes working behind the scenes (Space Vampires). It’s going to be interesting to see where their adventures take them next and whether or not a team book with these Agents of Wakanda might spinoff from their tales.
