The Rundown: Peter Parker gets a job offer but more, darker changes are coming for him.

A young Peter Parker learns a harsh lesson about both life and power when he deals with his first loss. In the present, Peter is living with his Uncle Ben and working for Curt Conners. At night, he writes a blog exposing the problems within huge tech companies including Oscorp who have been performing dangerous experiments on subjects without anyone knowing.

Ben has been in the process of suing Oscorp for what happened to Peter’s parents when Peter is approached by Felicia Hardy who brings him to the Oscorp campus for a job offer. In the aftermath, Peter goes to sleep that night and everything in his life changes including his life itself as a spider-like creature attaches to him.

The Story: Phillip Kennedy Johnson crafts a dark, thrilling and entertaining story in this first issue. I think there is a good balance between the familiar elements of the Spider-Man lore and the new lore being developed for this story and this new iteration of these characters. There are some great horror elements throughout the story and that teases the kind of world this story takes place in well.

The Art: Scietronc creates some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. The visual style works brilliantly with the dark themes of the story.
