The Rundown: The birth of the wizard known as Myrddin is revealed as well as his connection to Kang.

In the wake of another defeat at the hands of the Avengers, Kang finds himself at a time he never visited contemplating his defeat and what meaning his life still has. In the aftermath of his musings, Kang realizes that the only way to move beyond his constraints is to do something bold.

Kang realizes that the only reason the Myrddin and his forces have been multiple steps ahead of him is because Myrddin is him. So Kang spends years building the persona that would challenge him and sends his forces to do just that. With the elusive missing moment closer to his grasp, he will enter a dangerous anomaly to secure the ability to remake the universe.

The Story: I understand what MacKay was trying to do in this issue and there are elements of it that I can appreciate, but Kang becoming his own enemy is so self-indulgent that it put me off. I was expecting more and while the reveal has some interesting elements, the fact that Myrddin is not an entity onto himself is disappointing to me as I’ve been intrigued with the character this entire arc.

The Art: Pina delivers some great art in the issue. The pages and panels are beautifully detailed throughout the issue.
