The Rundown: The students decide to make amends for their actions and Calvin gets tempted again.
In the aftermath of their mission to rescue Calvin from Gaslamp, VooDoo is called to a meeting with the magical council in New Orleans to answer for the destruction of that area of the Quarter. VooDoo reassures them that the students are doing what they can to make amends. Amends that will come in the form of a carnival for the local residents to raise money for the repairs.
As Calvin makes his own amends to his fellow students, a mistake with the wrong book will unleash a familiar face onto the grounds. With all of the students running off to help the teachers, Calvin finds himself confronted by Emily and her new minions. A meeting that will leave Emily and the others turning to an ancient evil to prepare for the next part of her plan.
The Story: Young continues to maintain a great balance between humor and drama in this issue. The confrontation between Calvin and Emily is great and there are some great moments of growth from the character as you witness the cracks in their group. It’s a great moment buffered with awesome action throughout. I also love the end of the issue and what it means not only for Emily and the others, but Doyle specifically.
The Art: Ramos delivers some beautifully detailed visuals throughout the issue and I love the details in the characters as well as how brilliantly the style works with the themes of the series and its characters.
