We’re currently six episodes into the first season of Star Trek Discovery and viewers who have been enjoying the new take on the Star Trek mythology got some good news this week.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

It’s been announced and confirmed that Star Trek Discovery has been renewed for a second season on CBS All-Access. According to President and CEO of CBS Interactive Marc DeBevoise; “In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” he said.

The series set a new record for online sign ups for the service and the influx of viewers for the series set before Kirk and Spock and after Enterprise has been surprising given the series arduous two-year journey to the screen. The network, however, has confidence in the series according to Marc DeBevoise;  “This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.”

As to what season two will bring to the viewers, Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman was coy in his response, stating;  “We have a…big idea that emerged mid- to late-season one for something we want to do for season two. That’s now become the spine of what we want to do for season two,” Kurtzman told THR about plotting for another season.

Season One of Star Trek Discovery is currently airing on CBS All-Access.
