With the upcoming release of the big budget remake of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise and Russell Cruise this week, Universal has announced that they have added two more classic movie monsters to the roster of their “Dark Universe” shared universe.
In an interview with Fandom, producer/director Alex Kurtzman revealed the names of two additional movies that had not originally been mentioned: The Phantom of the Opera and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. These additions would be added to the already announced roster of films that include Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man.
The Mummy will be the first in this series and the director has hinted that there may even be spin-off films from the roster listed above. Surprisingly, the one title not mentioned is one that has a direct link to The Mummy remake. Russell Crowe is playing the epynomous Doctor Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde. Why no mention of a Jekyll/Hyde movie in the works?
Let me know what you think. Are you interested in the Universal Dark Universe of films? Who would you cast as either the Phantom or The Hunchback. Let me know in the comments below.
The Mummy opens in theaters June 9, 2017.
