Marvel Studios has been inundated with questions about a Black Widow solo film since the character made her debut in Iron Man 2. Now the solo adventures of the super spy are another step closer to being a reality.
In a move that many see as a reaction to the upcoming Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller Red Sparrow, which has parallels to the comic book characters origin, according to Variety and the AV Club, Marvel Studios has brought in someone to write a script for the long rumored Black Widow movie.
The studio has tapped writer Jac Schaeffer to write the script for Black Widow. Schaeffer is an up and coming writer whose Black List screenplay “The Shower”, about an alien invasion during a baby shower caught the attention of actress Anne Hathaway, who attached herself to star in the movie. The writer has met with Kevin Feige after he met with Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson to see what she wanted from a solo film.
Although a film has not been greenlit, the behind the scenes moves that are coming out are a clear indication that the studio is putting the pieces in place to move forward. Scarlett Johansson brought the spy to life on-screen in Iron Man 2 and has played the character in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
