The Rundown: Monica meets with Samantha as more of her past is revealed.

Monica has a devastating nightmare as she waits to decide if she is going to take Samantha up on her offer. At the same time, Samantha thinks back on her past and her loving parents who she decides to stay with and work with at the hardware store. A decision that will allow her to indulge in her other activities with a level of peace and understanding.

As Monica heads into the town to learn more about Samantha and the circumstances surrounding the murders, Sam’s memories return to her past where a decision from her parents prompts her to break one of her rules. As the two meet again, Samantha takes her somewhere close that might bring her some answers to what happened to her brother.

The Story: Horvath continues to ramp up the tension and suspense throughout this issue and I love it. The drama between Monica and Samantha is pitch perfect and I really loved diving into Samantha’s past with her parents and how the decisions she made formed her into the killer she has become. There is a dark undertone to this story and I am excited to see what Horvath does next with these characters.

The Art: Horvath’s art is visually brilliant. I continue to be impressed and enamored with the tranquility of the setting and the visual and visceral brutality of the murders.
