The Rundown: A simple dinner turns into an adventure and two rivals decide to challenge Superman and Batman

The Hero Trap

On a rare night out, Bruce and Clark decide to take Alfred and Jonathan out for a Father’s Day dinner. Unfortunately, an alert from the satellite breaks up the meal and Batman must break into a facility to rescue Flash who is being held by Lex Luthor. At the same time, Alfred thinks of all the times he had to patch up Bruce as well as his memories of raising the boy when Clark decides to rush off and help. When the heroes discover that they have fallen into a trap, two unlikely heroes will come to their rescue.

I really love this story. Russell does a great job of keeping the story thrilling and fun while also having moments of reflection for the two fathers in the story. There is a fun atmosphere to the story along with great action and humor. I also really love the art throughout the story, especially the character designs.

Date Night

Bat-Mite and Mxyzptlk are hanging out in their dimension when one of them decides that Batman and Lois should be an item. The other vehemently disagrees and the pair devise a plan. One that will see both Bruce and Clark vying for Lois’ affections at a local fair where Superman decides to use his powers for some devious and playful sabotage of Bruce’s date.

This was a fun story that had some great comedic moments. From a premise standpoint, it was a little weak, but it worked for the most part to give a fun story that had Superman being slightly pettier than I expected. I also really liked the art and how it captured the tone of the story.
