The Rundown: With his partner gone, Batman has to find a way to clear his name and stop Grimaldi.

After having Dick taken to a foster home and being arrested, Bruce manages to be released and heads to a secret cave beneath the city since his manor is under siege by the corrupt authorities in the city. With the rich and powerful in Gotham being replaced by Clayface infused soldiers, Batman pays a visit to the compromised Attorney General and discovers that the Clayface formula is more unstable than he thought.

The dying man gives Batman information that will lead him to the location where Gordon and the other people replaced are located along with evidence to bring the entire operation down. Going in alone, Batman finds himself facing off against not only Clayface soldiers, but also Two-Face and in need of an unexpected rescue.

The Story: Waid crafts a thrilling, intense and engaging mystery in this issue. I love the inner conflict Bruce is dealing with as well as the external threat he faces. There is great action throughout the story and I love seeing Batman both conflicted and determined in the story. There are some thrilling moments in the fight with the Clayfaces and I loved the surprise at the end of the issue.

The Art: Samnee delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how it captures the tone and feel of the time the story takes place in.
