The Rundown: Batman is the subject of a murder mystery.

For the Main Man Who Has Everything

Batman has gone to the grave of Alfred for a solemn moment that is quickly interrupted by the appearance of Lobo who has been contracted to bring in Batman dead for the murder of an intergalactic monarch. Batman quickly turns the table on the bounty hunter and convinces him to bring him to the scene of the crime where they find themselves facing a threat Batman remembers too well.

I really got into the beginning of this story and was hoping for an interesting mystery at the heart of it, but it quickly turned into a cliché Black Mercy story that had all of the beats of every other story told before it. There was nothing particularly new either in the dream sequence or in the resolution, but I did like Lobo’s finale of the story. The art was really good throughout the story. It had great visual style.

Pyg Pen

A local art studio in the heart of Gotham City houses many kinds of artists in a close-knit community. When a new resident moves in, he quickly makes a negative impression with his chosen artistic medium. An impression that will have the residents trying to find a way to get rid of him and doing something drastic when they discover the resident is Professor Pyg and that his next piece of art will feature the captured Batman.

A fun, thoughtful and entertaining story that showcases the importance and strength of community. I like that Pyg is the villain of this story and how it builds on the impression that he makes on the residents. An interesting story that shows an even more interesting side of Gotham.
