The Rundown: Piper lives a life with no purpose until she finds one in the Twilight Zone.

Piper lives alone and seemingly has no purpose or direction in her life. Her friend Chey decides to cheer her up by making her leave her apartment and spend the day outside in the world. After spending the day with Chey and hearing about her life and responsibilities, Piper decides to become custodian to a new plant.

As she begins to care for the new plant, it grows quickly and also begins to develop other features that make it more than just a regular plant. It becomes sentient and its life will change Piper’s forever, but not without upending the current one.

The Story: Goux creates an interesting premise in this issue. Unfortunately, the premise is where the interest ends. The story becomes almost immediately predictable as it begins to unfold and there isn’t much to latch onto with the character of Piper. Other than finding one thing to care about, she doesn’t really grow or evolve as a character throughout the story and her lack of connection to the world makes the ending a forgone conclusion. There are also no twists or reveals that make this story feel like it belongs in the Twilight Zone at all.

The Art: Goux creates some beautifully detailed and visually engaging art in the issue. I love all the small visual details and wish there was a more compelling story to fit them.
