The Rundown: Soluna and Pigeon face difficulties trying to replace the power of the gods.

It’s been thirty years since Soluna and Pigeon took down the last of the gods who had been terrorizing the people, but things are not getting better for the people. Droughts, sickness and famine are ravaging the land and the survivors are turning to the temple for help and not finding any as children die from illness.

Above them, Soluna emerges from acting as the sun and prepares to take on the duties of the moon with her children attending her and Pigeon worried that she cannot act in this capacity much longer. As he works to find a solution to help the planet and his love, his sister arrives to tell them of the devastation on the surface and how they might need to try something different if they have any chance of keeping people alive.

The Story: Remender crafts a dark, engaging story in this issue. There are so many interesting layers to this series and this issue hits on a great one as the lead characters struggle to create a new system out of the ashes of the old and neither of them are prepared for the ramifications of what they did and might have to do. The story is setting up some great moral dilemmas and choices for Soluna and Pigeon and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Araujo crafts some beautifully detailed and visually dramatic art throughout the issue. It brilliantly captures the tone and mood of the story.
