The Rundown: Monica Brewer is determined to find her brother and a trip to Woodbrook might hold the key.
Monica’s brother Daniel went missing years ago and the precincts in the city have no clue of his whereabouts. Determined to find him, Monica stays in the city and eventually begins a life there as she sifts through clues and keeps herself cut off from everyone around her. Telling others about her missing brother on message boards yields a possible clue that will bring her Woodbrook.
After taking off for the town and discovering a piece of evidence with the local sheriff, Monica is even more determined that her brother is somehow missing in the woods of Woodbrook. As she prepares to search herself, she realizes that someone is in her car with her, Samantha Strong and Samantha offers to help Monica find the body of her missing brother, but she wants to know what she’s willing to do to find him.
The Story: Horvath returns readers to the idyllic world of Woodbrook with a story that brilliantly takes the point of view of someone connected to one of Samantha’s victims and shows how the disappearance of someone Samantha saw only has prey has an impact. I like seeing the emotional struggle Monica goes through in the story and loved the buildup of suspense before Monica and Samantha meet for the first time. The story ends on a great cliffhanger that makes me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Horvath delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the look of this series a lot and the imagery is brilliantly adroit in drawing the reader into the idyllic environment that is also home to intense violence.
