The Rundown: A powerful enemy arrives on Earth with a gift and the enemies of the X-Men continues to plan behind the scenes.

The SWORD station in space tracks a ship on its way to Earth and the X-Men are prepared to face whoever is commanding it. Rogue has her suspicions and they are confirmed when The High Evolutionary disembarks with greetings to the mutants. he High Evolutionary comes bearing a gift for the mutants. One that is meant to ease the mutant transition to dominance, but his words trigger Rogue and she goes on the attack.

Standing with their teammate, the mutants go on the offensive. After a tough battle, Jean and Scott discuss the emergence of a new threat to the planet and make a decision about the team and how they plan to combat it. At the same time, Orchis brings in someone to head the next phase of their plans for Mars and Ben Urich receives information that could blow open one of the mutant world’s biggest secrets.

The Story: Duggan crafts an exciting story for the characters with a lot of layers. The fight with the High Evolutionary is thrilling and entertaining and its repercussions are interesting to say the least. What is equally as interesting are the behind the scenes plots by Orchis. I continue to be engaged with how many enemies and plots are being hatched against the mutants and am invested in the story to learn more. The final moments of the issue are compelling and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

The Art: Larraz delivers some exciting and beautifully detailed art throughout this issue. There is great action, but also brilliantly detailed moments of intrigue.
