In an exclusive report from Deadline, fan favorite historical drama Vikings is coming to an end.

According to the exclusive in Deadline, the series will come to an end after its twenty episode sixth season.


While this might be the end of the series in its current form, according to series creator Michael Hirst and MGM Television, an extension of the franchise with a new series is in the works. Hirst and writer Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive) are working on the series, which is in its early stages.

Hirst has written every episode of the series, which is currently halfway through airing the back 10 episodes of its fifth season. The fifth season finale is expected to air January 30th. The series has wrapped production on its sixth and final season which is set to air later this year with the final episodes coming in early 2020.
