The Rundown: Jabba the Hutt sends Deva Lompop on a mission to track down Boba Fett. Deva’s history with The Hutts is revealed.
In the past, Jabba the Hutt requests that Deva Lompop and Boba Fett conduct an assassination. Once the two began their mission, Jabba decides he wants the mark brought in alive. The two hunters finally track down their target. And after a deadly confrontation, they capture Jarm Brock. It is then revealed that Jarm and Deva have history. Soon after, Boba is betrayed and an altercation occurs. Afterwards, Deva completes her mission by delivering both Boba and her prey to Jabba.
In the present, Jabba expresses concern at Boba Fett’s long absence. He decides to send Deva to track the absentee bounty hunter. Deva then travels to Boba’s whereabouts on Nar Shadaa. In the meantime, Jabba receives an invitation from a surprising source. Later, Deva reports her findings to Jabba, and is given new instructions. However, Deva is also in contact with an unusual ally that offers her an interesting proposition.
The Story: This story switches between the past and present to flesh out the relationship between Boba Fett and Deva. It also shows the enmity that Jabba has built up amongst his hirelings. Deva is a fascinating character, and I am especially interested in the connections she builds within this episode. I sincerely hope to see more of her within the overall Star Wars universe.
The Art: This issue combines detailed drawings with a color palette that changes depending on time frame and situation. The actions scenes are well done. And the focus on character expression and form helps to solidify the reader’s engagement.
