The Rundown: The crew of the U.S.S. Resolute is called to travel to hostile space to rescue a Federation scientist.

Dr. Leah Brahms is researching a new way to power an experimental warp engine when she is confronted by a fleet of alien ships. The U.S.S. Resolute is called from its mission on the edge of Federation space to begin a rescue mission for Dr. Brahms with the ship’s Captain being assigned specifically because of his previous working relationship with the doctor and the research she is conducting.

Starfleet Command sends the ship to the Talarian system to rescue the doctor and stealth is required given how the Talarians feel about Starfleet. After investigating Brahms’ last known location as well as what she discovered, the Resolute finds her current location as well as a group of Talarian ships with a familiar face leading them into battle.

The Story: An interesting first issue for this series. Knowing it is a prequel to an upcoming game made me a little apprehensive, but it is a solid story that has the right balance of Trek dialogue and stakes to keep me interested. I like seeing a new crew, ship and mission to follow as well with a nice sprinkle of familiar faces mixed in for fans of Star Trek. I would absolutely pick up the next issue to see what happens next.

The Art: Hood delivers some great art in the issue. There are awesome character designs and you feel part of the world of the characters with every page and panel.
