The Rundown: Spider-Man gets hired to find a killer while dealing with corrupt cops.
In typical Parker fashion, Peter’s personal life is circling the drain. After breaking up with his girl and forced to move into his office, taking on the Scorpion Gang as Spider-Man might be the therapy he needs.
When a woman named Gwen Stacy comes to his office to hire Peter Parker to investigate the murder of her father, he takes the case and immediately discovers there is more to the recently deceased Captain Stacy than anyone realized and his investigation into the murder will bring him face to face with a group of corrupt cops who want to silence the detective and his alter-ego.
The Story: Larsen crafts a fun, thrilling and energetic story in this first issue. I love the dialogue a lot and its homages to the hard-boiled detective genre. The mystery in the issue definitely grabbed my attention and the story is filled with enough drama, humor and action to keep me invested. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
The Art: Broccardo enhances the thrills and action of the story with beautifully detailed and impressive art. I love the style of this issue and how it embraces the world of the story.
