The Rundown: Two detectives investigate the brutal murder of a cult leader and his seven wives are the prime suspects.

Religious leader Matthew Dunn has been murdered and detectives Halwell and Aguilar have been assigned to the case. With his death taking place on his closed compound, the detectives have multiple suspects to interview and all of them are married to the deceased.
As the detectives begin their investigation, they start with Dunn’s first and legal wife who is a hard woman with few words and a lifetime of secrets. Even after learning the circumstances of how they met, the detectives discover that the other wives have stories as well and may not get along as much as they project. A late night rendezvous in the woods will reveal that two of the wives have a secret of their own.
The Story: Tunnell crafts a dark, engaging story in this first issue. The mystery immediately grabbed my attention both with the setting and the characters. There are several moments of compelling drama throughout the issue and they deepen the mystery with every moment that unfolds. I like that Aguilar has secrets of her own and it will be interesting to see how those secrets and the others unfold as well as what they will mean for the investigation.
The Art: Gagnon crafts some beautiful atmosphere with the art in this issue. The visuals beautifully enhance the story and the characters.
