With the success of Universal’s The Invisible Man, the studio has decided to get back into the monster movie business with a new take on the classic Wolfman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Ryan Gosling is circling the lead role in a new Wolfman film from Universal Pictures. The script is being written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Blum and Angelo were writers on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black.

There is currently no director attached to the film, but the THR source says that Gosling would play a television anchorman who is infected by a werewolf. The script is described as evoking Network and Nightcrawler vibes.

The Invisible Man was Universal’s first foray back into its Universal Monsters stable of characters since the disastrous remake of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise effectively ended the studios planned “Dark Universe” of connected stories. There’s no word yet on whether the Wolfman remake will connect to the Elizabeth Moss thriller or will it stand in its own universe.

Universal is also gearing up for more monster films with The Invisible Woman coming from Elizabeth Banks, Dracula from Karyn Kusama and a Dracula spinoff Renfield from Dexter Fletcher.
