Sonic the Hedgehog emerged this year as one of the most successful video game based movies ever bringing in over $300 million dollars at the box office. So a sequel was naturally going to be on the table.

According to a new report from THR, the Sega property will be coming back for another run. Sonic director Jeff Fowler will return to direct. Pat Casey and Josh Miller will also return to write the sequel which has become an even bigger hit on digital selling over 2 million units after its initial release.

Ben Schwartz voiced the title character in the first film. Joining him on-screen in the live action/CGI hybrid were James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Tika Sumpter. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are producing the follow-up, with Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller executive producing.
