The Rundown: Rex Racer is a racer and his brother’s position as one will force him to start a new life on the track.

Rex Racer was born to drive, but he finds himself using his skills as a getaway driver for a criminal organization in the wake of losing his racing career. A career he thinks back on as he remembers the argument with his father that led him to leave his family and join the dangerous Car Acrobatic Team.

After joining the team, Rex finds the dangerous world of racing to be more toxic than he imagined when saving a fellow driver puts him in the hot seat with his team and an accident forces him onto a darker path. A path he abandons when he discovers his brother is becoming a racer in his own right.

The Story: Russell crafts an interesting and compelling origin for Racer X in this issue. The story is dark and entertaining as we see Rex’s life spiral into that darkness before he finds new purpose. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic works with his relationship with Speed and what will happen when the pair square off on the track.

The Art: Plati delivers stunning art throughout the issue. I love the anime style of the art and how it depicts the speed and visual thrills of the story.
