The Rundown: Ryder must find a way to cure his infection, but he and Fionn are being hunted.

Ryder and Oaklynn’s father Fionn do not have the best relationship and that tension comes to a head in the past when he tries to teach Ryder to shoot before they leave to rescue the young woman. Ryder continues to fail and even thinks back on his inability to save Oaklynn from another attack before he finally stands up and refuses to run away.
The pair begin to look for a monster that could cure Ryder’s infection while the men who captured Oaklynn use her to locate the duo. Everything comes to a head when the opposing sides find themselves in a standoff in a cave. A standoff that will be interrupted by the emergence of a monster none of them can stop on their own.
The Story: Kaplan ramps up the action and thrills throughout this issue and I enjoyed every moment of it. I love the contrast between the past and present and how those moments are used to shape the character relationships and give context to who Ryder is as a character in this series. I continue to love the tension between Ryder and Fionn and how they both want to help Oaklynn. I love that there is still mystery to the other characters as well as the world of this story and how Kaplan is revealing those mysteries throughout the series. I love the buildup of suspense throughout this issue and its cliffhanger makes me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Raffaele delivers beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and this issue has some brilliant monster designs.
