Millennium Media, the studio responsible for the reboot of the Hellboy franchise is looking to bring another classic comic book character to the big screen.

Red Sonja was originally created by Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard, but it was Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith who created the comic book version of the character that has endured since the 1970’s. The heroine uses her fighting skills and savagery to fight both human and supernatural threats to the world. A film version of the character was introduced in 1985 starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzeneggar.

Millennium Media is financing the film which will be produced by Avi Lerner, who stated  “We have been waiting for the right time for this remake,” said Lerner, “and with the success of Wonder Woman, the audience has spoken. They want female heroes.”

The studio is looking to start its own franchise and Red Sonja might be their ticket considering the popularity of the character and the fact that Dynamite Entertainment still publishes original stories featuring her.
