In addition to the amazing stories that DC Comics have been producing lately under the DC Rebirth banner, the publisher’s Earth One series of books have also been some of their best stories to date. It’s been announced that a new story will join that canon with a new origin for its hero.
It was announced by DC Comics and covered online that the next saga in the Earth One series will be Green Lantern: Earth One. The new graphic novel from DC Entertainment will follow in the same tradition as previous titles in the series that reintroduced and reinvented classic characters like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
The classic story of Hal Jordan focused on Jordan as a hot-shot test pilot whose finds a downed spaceship containing the dying Green Lantern Abin Sur. Jordan’s ability to overcome great fear through force of will made him the perfect candidate to take up the mantle of the Green Lantern for space sector 2814.
According to sources, the new origin for Hal Jordan from the creative team behind the Image Comics series Invisible Republic will make Hal an astronaut and scientist. While on a mission in space, Hal will discover the Green Lantern ring by accident encased in an asteroid. The discovery will lead him on an adventure beyond his imagination.
The creative team behind Green Lantern: Earth One will be Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman with colors by Jordan Boyd and lettering by Simon Bowland. Harland recently gave an interview to IGN where he talked about the upcoming project.
“Approaching this as an Earth One story gives us the opportunity to go back to the core concept of Green Lantern and interpret it through the lens of a modern, grounded sci-fi story while still being true to the Silver Age roots of Hal Jordan.” he said.
Green Lantern: Earth One Vol. 1 will be released March 20, 2018.
