Locke and Key, based on the IDW comic book series written  by Joe Hill, has had a hard road to go in trying to be adapted to television but there may be some good news for fans of the series.

The horror thriller was originally developed for Fox television to air in 2010. The pilot, which starred Miranda Otto, Sarah Bolger, Nick Stahl and Mark Pellegrino, was screened at Comic-Con to positive responses. Ultimately, it never made it to series.

In May 2016, IDW decided to try again with Lost producer Carlton Cuse and Joe Hill to take another chance on the property. This time a new pilot was shot by IT director Andy Muschietti for HULU starring Frances O’Connor, Jack Mulhern and Megan Carpentier with a script by Hill himself. Unfortunately, the new CEO of HULU Randy Freer decided to pass on the series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix (who originally bid on the series and lost to HULU) is picking up the series for a straight to series order. According to the report, a new pilot will be shot and a new cast announced, but Cuse and Hill will remain as producers on the series. Muschietti will not be returning to direct as he is heavily into pre-production on IT: Chapter 2.

Locke and Key is a horror/fantasy series about three siblings and their devoted mother who are dealing with the devastating murder of the family patriarch. They decide to move to the family home Key House, an estate which conceals a series of doorways that lead to different dimensions using a set of magical keys. The property also holds a demon, who wants the key at any cost.
