Fans of the 1980’s hit sci-fi series Quantum Leap continue to be a little miffed at the way the series ended and have been speculating for years about how the series might return to finish its story.

Now it looks like that might actually be happening.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has greenlit a pilot sequel to the time traveling adventure Quantum Leap that could see the return of series star Scott Bakula as time-hopping explorer Sam Beckett.

The synopsis of the pilot was released as well and it says; “It’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.”

Bakula’s involvement is only rumor at this point, but including him in the synopsis is a good sign that he will be involved. Sadly, Dean Stockwell, who played Sam’s loyal sidekick and friend Al, passed last year and I hope that the show somehow honors the character if it gets picked up.
