Marvel Legacy has been the publisher’s big push to take the heroes of Marvel Comics back to the roots of the characters that fans know and love and now Marvel has brought in a new creative team to take their superhero team into the future.

Writer Jason Aaron and Artist Ed Guiness will team up to relaunch Marvel’s Avengers with a new series and a new roster of heroes. Avengers #1 will reunite three of the core members of the original team while adding some new and powerful members to the new roster.

Captain America, Tony Stark’s Iron Man and Thor Odinson will return to the roster along with returning members She-Hulk, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange. Adding to the new roster will be Ghost Rider. According to sources, Doctor Strange will be on the team for a limited time and his spot will rotate among other heroes. Avengers #1 will be the only Avengers title in the new Marvel’s Fresh Start lineup of books and will ship 18 issues per year.

The series will tie into Aaron’s other work in Marvel Legacy, specifically the Avengers of 10,000 BC which featured Odin, Phoenix, Ghost Rider, Black Panther, Starbrand, Iron Fist and Agamotto. This story, and the Dark Celestials that it introduced, will tie into the new series post Avengers: No Surrender. According to Aaron;

My aim with this series is basically, if you only read one Marvel comic — not that you should read just one Marvel comic, but if you did — if you picked this book up, this would show you the landscape of the Marvel universe issue after issue. We want to feature the biggest characters and go to the coolest, most exotic locations around the Marvel U.”
