The Rundown: Laura finds herself seemingly safe while Yui worries about the change that is coming.

In the aftermath of Hiroshima, Yui wanders the destruction and finds herself in the presence of the vampire that will change her life. In the present, Yui and Lucas try to determine what they should do with the human among them. Unfortunately, Yui’s concerns that things are about to change come to grisly reality when Laura is unable to contact any of her group.

After Billy and the others discover a group of humans, they proceed to slaughter them. Unfortunately for the kids, the adult humans are armed and not all of the kids will survive the encounter. With the sun coming up, the rest decide to leave, but one stays behind only to find himself at the mercy of an angry human.

The Story: Lemire raises the stakes in this story as the kids find themselves dealing with the reality of encountering humans again and that they might not be as invulnerable as they were led to believe. I like the focus on Yui in the story and how her backstory helps shape her personality as she deals with being around a human again. I like how dark the story is getting and how dangerous it is for both sides.

The Art: Nugyen delivers some beautifully dark and vivid art throughout the issue. The characters look amazing and the action is visually thrilling. There is a wonderful visual contrast between the character moments and the action.
