The development nightmare that is the standalone Gambit movie has lost another director today according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will be the third director to have left the production. In October 2015, Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt left the film. The next year in August 2016, The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman left the project as well. Verbinski was brought in to take over in October 2017. Casting for the film is continuing with Lizzy Caplan in talks to play the female lead, but there is no news on who will be taking over the production and there are some who speculate that the entire production might fold as a result of the impending Disney/Fox deal which will return the X-Men characters to Marvel.

Tatum is also acting as producer on the film along with Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
