The Rundown: A series of events leads to a stand-off between the Kingdom of El and two of their greatest enemies.
The story opens with the Green Man and the living object he wields. Elsewhere, two groups of allies build their alliance and discuss current events. Meanwhile, in The El Dungeons, prisoners meet for the first time and work to develop an escape plan. Later, two warring groups clash in Hobb Forest. Soon, two princesses make an attempt to bring peace. However, a series of events wreaks havoc on their intentions.
The Story: All I can say is WOW. Taylor provides another shocking episode that subverts all expectations. From a reimagined meeting between a famous pair to the gruesome death of someone all powerful, this chapter keeps the reader on the edge of their seats.
I really enjoyed watching the relationship dynamics that were shown and the world building they provide. There are multiple pairings, each facing a different set of challenges. We are shown two sets of lovers, queens, new friends, old acquaintances and two characters eerily reminiscent of Shakespeare’s Iago.
I am very impressed with the care that has been taken in the story telling. It is no easy feat to incorporate multiple storylines into one cohesive narrative. Yet, each group is easily identifiable, and their actions are easy to follow, even when they overlap. Overall, I found this chapter entertaining and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
The Art: This well-designed issue features several intense action sequences. Detailed imagery adds depth and range to the scenes while attention to character expression and form provide for an emotional visual experience. I was completely engaged throughout the tale.
