The Rundown: Twins Vax and Vex investigate a series of missing persons in a small town.

In the swamps outside the city of Stilben, a young mother and her husband are forced to sacrifice their baby for the sake of a curse on the area. As they leave, Vax and Vex emerge to investigate who or what is responsible. As Vex looks around the area, Vax is taken by a creature beneath the water that the twins team up to defeat. An injured Vax is healed by a young druid named Keyleth who was roaming the area on her own mission.
As the twins return to town, they discover that the local alchemist is possibly a suspect in the poisoning of the water that is leading to the sacrifices. After following the alchemist to a meeting with a mysterious figure, Vax and Vex are attacked by assassins and realize they might need help to get the answers they are searching for.
The Story: Mercer and Colville craft a fun, exciting and entertaining story in this issue. It’s a reprint of the original series and a great way for those new to Vox Machina and Critical Role to dive into the early missions of the group before they found each other. There are great moments of tension and humor throughout the story and I loved the first awkward moments between the twins and Keyleth.
The Art: Samson delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the issue and the character designs a lot. Everything is gorgeously detailed and visually engaging.
