The comic book world lost another talented artist this week with the passing of Batman artist Norm Breyfogle at the age of 58.

Breyfogle began working for DC Comics in 1984 and in 1987 he began his impressive history drawing the Bat Family of titles including Detective Comics and Batman. From 1987 to 1995, Breyfogle co-created some now iconic Batman characters including The Ventriliquist, Ratcatcher, Anarky, Jeremiah Arkham and Victor Zsasz.

Breyfogle also drew the first Elseworlds title for DC, Batman: Holy Terror as well as another one-shot Batman: Birth of the Demon which he hand painted. He went on to draw series like The Spectre Avengers, Black Panther, Archie and Moon Knight as well as helping to create the Malibu Comics Ultraverse character Prime.

It is unclear what Breyfogle’s cause of death was as of this story, but it has been confirmed that he passed away on Monday in Houghton, Michigan.
