The Rundown: Sam’s investigation will take a dark and deadly turn.

Sam finds himself thinking back to his time in the war. A war that had a different and unexpected conclusion than he thought when he joined up, but it did give him the opportunity to meet Kendra. Back in the present he finds himself confronted by a couple of Alka’s men and quickly takes them out. Later, Sam continues his investigation into Kendra’s death at her place of work which happens to be the department that keeps everyone connected to the net.

Sam and Ben meet up to discuss what little information he has about what happened to his ex, but her notes reveal there might be a connection to a gang trafficking in illegal, shared veils. As Sam continues to wonder what happened to his ex, her former boss gets a visit from someone unexpected. Sam continues his investigation and discovers something secret in an area no one visits. Something that might be connected to the death of his ex-wife. Something that might get him killed.

The Story: Snyder dives deeper into the history of the world he’s creating in this series and this issue gives the main character more depth. The story was incredibly engaging and the mystery within it definitely got my attention and made me interested in more. There are some intriguing layers to this story and Snyder manages to keep the gritty, noir tone going effectively right up to an ending that I could not have predicted and am clamoring to see what happens next.

The Art: Manapul delivers some beautiful and visually exciting panels throughout this issue. Every page is filled with gorgeous detail and great energy.
