The director does stress that the cameos and appearances do not take away from the fact that this is a Flash movie first. Andy Muschietti goes on to say; “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

As to what Affleck’s Batman will signify in the story, Muschietti told Vanity Fair; “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure…There’s a familiarity there.”

Affleck’s return to the cape and cowl will happen so with Warner Brothers hoping to begin production on the film starring Ezra Miller as The Flash. The film is scheduled for release June 3, 2022.
