Season 2 Episode 6
Do Not Resuscitate
Official Description – As Ryan Wilder’s kryptonite wound grows more severe, it hinders Batwoman’s ability to protect Gotham; Alice’s reunion with a fellow Coryana inhabitant presents unexpected complications.
The show opens in Gotham Hospital. A mysterious serum being administered has surprising results. Afterwards, a frustrated doctor hatches a plan involving a patient with a tragic past.
Elsewhere in Gotham, Ryan Wilder is suffering from the effects of a previous injury. When Angelique Martin assists her, an unrelated discussion causes friction. Later, Sophie Moore contacts Ryan and gives her an ultimatum.
In another part of town, Jacob Kane and Mary Hamilton are captured. During an interrogation, several important revelations occur, and Jacob must come to terms with his lack of interaction in Mary’s life.
When Ryan goes to the Batcave to do research, a conversation with Tim about Alice alerts her to Sophie’s true intentions. Soon the two learn of Jacob and Mary’s kidnapping. While planning their rescue, Tim learns Ryan’s secret.
Meanwhile, Alice and Ocean find themselves involved in a mystery. A quick call to Safiyah prompts the making of an important decision. As the two discover more about their past they are accosted by Sophie. After a confrontation, Sophie retrieves a prize from them.
Shortly after, Sophie learns of the kidnapping and rushes to assist Jacob and Mary. Ryan also arrives as more secrets are revealed. Then, an unexpected occurrence takes place that changes the game for all involved.
Later, Tim and Mary make plans involving Jacob, but the strained relationship between father and daughter causes a disconnect. A heartbreaking exchange between Ryan and Angelique is unknowingly witnessed by Sophie. And in the finale scene, Alice and Ocean hatch a new plan.
Rachel Skarsten once again delivers as Alice. Watching her alternate from campy, over the top psycho, to a woman haunted by her past is enjoyable. Especially when Alice interacts with the serene Ocean. I look forward to see more of their tale play out.
However, it is Ryan’s story that interests me the most. Her ups and downs are incredibly captivating. But, her interactions with the Crows really draws my attention. The special relationship the rest of the Bat Family has with the organization’s leaders gives them a certain humanity. It causes the viewer to have an investment in their interests and well being.
However, Ryan views them as destructive and terrorizing. And it changes the narrative dramatically. Especially when it comes to Sophie Moore, with whom she has a decidedly tumultuous history. I am very curious to see how their relationship will evolve over time.
